What's In Our Christmas Cross Stitch Kits?
If you've never bought a cross stitch kit before, or you're wondering exactly what you'll find inside one of our Christmas bauble kits, you've come to the right place!
Our Christmas Bauble Cross Stitch Kits are a little different from our usual kits (you can find a little more about what goes into those HERE) because each one allows you to create three individual Christmas decorations. Each decoration features a different British landmark, perfect for adding a bit of local love to your Christmas tree, giving as gifts, or simply keeping as a little reminder of favourite places. So, what exactly do you get in the box?
Let's take a look...
three Patterns (one per bauble)
TSK kits are all 'counted cross stitch'. This means the fabric is plain and the pattern is printed on paper separately. (This is in contrast with the much less common 'printed cross stitch' where the pattern is printed on the fabric).
The patterns included in all christmas bauble kits are...
double sided: This means the chart for the cross stitches is shown on the front, with the back showing the position of any additional stitches such as straight stitches and back stitches (if the pattern has any additional stitches of course) This means that the cross stitch symbols aren't obscured.
enlarged: Due to the size and detail within each design, each pattern is printed nice and big so the symbols are easy to see.
black and white symbols (for the cross stitch chart): This was based on a poll of cross stitchers where the majority of respondents reported they preferred black and white patterns to colour patterns. However, I know some stitchers prefer colour patterns, so if this is you, you can get the colour PDF pattern for your kit emailed to you by contacting me with proof of purchase/ownership (eg order number or photo of the kit).
beginner-friendly Instructions
We've included easy to follow instructions to take you through the basics of cross stitch, from getting started with your fabric and thread to completing your stitches.
You'll also find information about the three landmarks featured in your kit, so while you're stitching you can discover a little more about the places you're bringing to life. We love the idea that these aren't just Christmas decorations, they're tiny stitched souvenirs of some of Britain's most recognisable places.
specialist cross stitch Fabric
Each of our Christmas baubles kits contains three pieces of 18 count white Zweigart Aida, one for each of your baubles.
But what does 18 count mean? Quite simply, it means there are 18 stitches per inch of fabric. We use 18 count Aida because it allows us to include plenty of detail in these little designs while still giving you that lovely crisp finish.
And what's Zweigart? Zweigart is a well-known manufacturer of high-quality needlework fabrics, so you can be confident you're getting good quality fabric to stitch on.
Aida (a specialist cross stitch fabric) is also particularly beginner-friendly because the holes in the fabric make it easy to see where your needle needs to go.
a strong, stainless-steel Needle
You'll also find a strong stainless steel needle made by John James Needles in your kit. We've chosen John James needles because they're a British manufacturer and their needles are strong and reliable, exactly what you want when you're stitching your way through three Christmas decorations!
Pre-sorted Threads and Threadholder
Of course, you also need something to stitch with! Each Christmas bauble kit contains all the DMC embroidery threads you'll need for your three designs, pre-sorted onto a threadholder.
DMC threads are widely used throughout the cross stitch and embroidery world and in our opinion are the highest quality embroidery thread available. (The kit includes the DMC thread identification numbers so you can reuse any left overs for future projects!)
We've sorted the threads for you before your kit leaves us, so there's no need to spend ages working out which colour is which before you can start stitching, and popped them on a handy threadholder which gives you somewhere to keep your threads organised.

Once you've finished stitching, you'll need something to turn your designs into Christmas decorations. That's where the embroidery hoops come in. There's one hoop for each bauble, allowing you to frame your finished stitching and turn each little landmark into a decoration ready for your tree.
white backing felt
We've also included some white felt to back your baubles. Simply attach with blanket stitch as per the instructions and you have yourself a neat and tidy finish to your baubles.
three ribbons
And finally we've added three pieces of white ribbon, one for each bauble. Once your stitching is finished and you've backed your hoop, simply add the ribbon so you can hang your decorations straight onto the Christmas tree.
