10 North East Christmas Markets You Won't Want To Miss In 2026

One of my favourite things about the run-up to Christmas is getting out and about to discover lovely independent makers, pick up a few unique gifts and soak up some festive atmosphere. As I'm normally working at a lot of these events I don't usually get to enjoy them fully, but this year, as I take a little step back from trading, you can bet I will be! Luckily, there are plenty of brilliant Christmas markets and festive events happening across the North East, with something to suit just about everyone, whether you love handmade crafts, vintage treasures, independent businesses, delicious local food or something a little more alternative.

Here are 10 unmissable North East Christmas markets to pop in your diary, including those that you can purchase our beginner-friendly modern cross stitch kits from. I've tried to include a mix of different event styles and one suggestion for every weekend in the run-up to Christmas, so you've got lots to choose from!

Newcastle Racecourse, Newcastle Upon Tyne

22nd-25th October

As usual, the Christmas event season kicks off with the Living North Christmas Fair, a must-visit for festive shoppers who like to get sorted early. While I wont actually be trading there this year, I know from previous years experience that you can expect to find a huge range of independent designers, artisan makers, and delicious local food producers.

Hexham Mart, Hexham

1st November

Discover unique gifts and handmade treasures at this market celebrating local creativity and independent businesses. It’s a lovely opportunity to find something a little different while supporting talented makers from the area. You can even get a watercolour painting of your dog on the day by the lovely and super talented Lauren Young Illustration.

Manor House Hotel & Spa, County Durham

8th November

Get into the Christmas spirit at this festive market, where you can browse stalls, discover gift ideas and enjoy a seasonal community atmosphere. It’s a great opportunity to support local traders while picking up a few special treats for the festive season.

Beamish Hall, County Durham

13th-15th November

Set in the beautiful surroundings of Beamish Hall, this festive shopping event is packed with handpicked exhibitors selling unique gifts, Christmas decorations and delicious seasonal treats. The historic setting and festive atmosphere make it a lovely day out for getting into the Christmas spirit.

Spanish City, Whitley Bay

20th-22nd November

Set in Whitley Bay's iconic white dome, this is a great market for Christmas gifts and seasonal goodies while enjoying the distinctive atmosphere of one of the North East’s best-loved buildings. I won't be trading there this year but might have to attend as a visitor!

The Common Room, Newcastle Upon Tyne

28th November

For something a little different, Northern Gothic Hexmas is ideal for those who love their Christmas with a darker, alternative edge. Expect a celebration of gothic style and alternative creativity, with the perfect opportunity to discover unusual gifts for anyone who prefers the wonderfully weird to the traditionally festive.

Rigg & Furrow, Northumberland

5th-6th December

A beautifully curated market celebrating sustainable living, independent makers, and earthy festive style. Perfect for those who love slow gifts, natural decor, and thoughtful Christmas shopping.

Bonus - You can find two of the TSK Artist Collection kits as Ounce Of Style and A City By The Sea are both trading at this market!

Boiler Shop, Newcastle Upon Tyne

6th December

A one-day celebration of northern creativity, featuring indie designers, artists, and small-batch producers. Ideal for finding unique presents that feel extra special under the tree.

Bonus - You can find me at this market with our cross stitch kits and accessories!

The Bowes Museum, Barnard Castle

11th-13th December

Set against the stunning backdrop of The Bowes Museum, this winter market brings together more than 100 artists, designers, makers and food stalls. Browse everything from jewellery and ceramics to textiles, original artwork and festive treats, with workshops and seasonal activities adding to the atmosphere.

Salt Market Social, North Shields

20th December

Perfect for anyone who loves a good rummage for something special, this vintage market brings together independent traders selling retro clothing, collectables, records, artwork, homeware and one-of-a-kind finds. With food, music and a lively atmosphere, it’s a refreshing alternative to traditional Christmas shopping and a great way to discover pre-loved treasures.

With so many fantastic events to choose from, there’s no need to do all your Christmas shopping on Amazon! I hope this list inspires you to explore somewhere new, support some brilliant local businesses and enjoy a little extra festive magic in the North East this Christmas.
